Welcome

New Director's Vision Continues to Expand

Jeff      Imprinted on my heart and memory are the extreme emotions I experienced when I first heard described this program called Shapes Mentoring some three years ago. My wife Jessie and I were sitting in a church service, like any other Sunday morning, when Scott Jett, got up and spoke about the need for children with incarcerated parents to have a positive role model, someone to come alongside and care for them and about them. He presented a compelling case that called me to action.     As we drove home I had a vision of myself standing before a large crowd of people talking about the Shapes Mentoring Program. This vision became a reality in January 2007, when I joined the Shapes Mentoring staff. There was such a sense of contentment knowing that I had received what I felt God had promised me several years earlier. Little did I know that His plans for me at Shapes Mentoring would not end there.     As this transition unfolds I find myself looking back through my life and once again I am very aware of divine providence. From my youth ministry degree and the social justice passion that was ignited in both Jessie and myself in college, to the experience gained as a senior pastor and business coordinator while completed my masters degree and now as I reach the soon completion of a doctorate in leadership, I can see how God has been guiding my steps for this appointment. Through all this I have always had a deep love for kids that I am humbled to say has been reciprocated.     Shapes has a bright future, made possible by the many dedicated mentors and of course the efforts of Scott Jett, the founding director. Without his efforts and vision this program would not exist today. Thank you Scott for your dedication to the program, staff, volunteers and most importantly the kids!     To all of you who continually invest in Shapes Mentoring through time, finances and prayer, let’s continue to work together so that every child affected by parental incarceration can receive a mentor and a chance at an awesome future!
