Continuing Education
The Mentoring Children of Prisoners Support Center has been generous enough to allow us to provide on-demand continuing education courses to our mentors. Below is a list of lessons you can read that are relevant to mentoring. The courses take 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Please note that the links are best viewed in Internet Explorer or Firefox web browsers.
If you are completing these courses for mentor training credit hours, at the end of the training on the page that says “Course Evaluation,” click on the link that says “If you would like to print your certificate, click here.” Fill in the fields of the certificate (your name and date). Then you can choose to save a copy and e-mail it to nick@shapesmentoring.org, or you can fax a copy to (417) 864-6088. Once we receive your certificate, we will e-mail you a short questionnaire about the course. After we receive that from you, you will receive 1 hour of continuing education training! (you must complete a total of 3 hours in 1 year).
Attention: Many have reported that when completing multiple courses, the course titles on the certificates do not change to reflect the title of the courses you completed.
If you experience this problem, please change the text field with the course name on the certificate to reflect the name of the course you completed. Thank you!

“Sparks” Training
The Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota and Search Institute have recently created an exciting new approach to mentoring based on the concept of “sparks.” A spark is something that gives a person’s life meaning and purpose and gives them a goal to strive for. As a mentor, you can help encourage your mentee to develop, study and express that spark through various means.
The Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota has provided a great selection of literature on this topic at their website. If you scroll down to the section that says “Spark’s Resources” on the link provided below and read 1 article and provide a 150 word reflection on that article (send it as an attachment to nick@shapesmentoring.org or fax to (417) 864-6088), you will receive 1 hour of continuing education credit.
